There she goes – Bob Marley. This is a very happy sounding reggae song in C#Maj. It is moderate in speed, has only 4 chords and is in 4/4 time. The instruments are electric guitar, bass guitar, Drums, 3 male vocals. They all play slightly complex rhythms. A short guitar riff brings the song in. The guitar varies from simple strumming to picking and syncopated strumming. The bass line is the most complex playing in syncopation with the snare drum (the rim is played). The bass drum is accented on the first beat of the bar and in between beats 2 + 3. The vocals are most interesting. Bob Marley is singing the lead line whilst two backing singers sing harmony a 3rd apart to exactly the same rhythm. The overall texture created is homophonic, sounding very full.

All I ever wanted – Santana
This is an up-tempo (4/4 time) rock song, with a very catchy bass and guitar melody. This is typical of Santana, he likes to create songs based around a catchy guitar melody. Instruments are drums, 2 electric guitars, bass guitar, congas and keyboards. The whole band plays in syncopation. 1 electric guitar plays along with the voice line in section A. The other electric guitar plays a riff and then chords later on. The bass guitar is syncopated and keyboards use an church organ type sound. Congas play in 16th notes all throughout. The drums are very tight, this contributes largely to the whole band being tight. The form of the song is binary. This a rocking song!
Miss Shepherdess – Zhouyu
This is a very laid back, relaxing piece from china. It’s an instrumental consisting of an erhu (like a violin), Chinese banjo, small pizzicato string section and a steel string classical guitar. There are no drums or percussion as the instruments are not playing to a strict rhythm.
The erhu is the solo instrument, the accompanying instruments play in unison. The Chinese banjo plays a background melody with lots of soft tremelando notes.
In the C section the steel strung classical guitar also plays pizzicato along with the strings. The music gradually comes to a halt by rallentando.
Fun Tashlach – The Burning Bush
This is another instrumental piece in 4/4 time. Andante would describe the tempo. Instruments used are 2 violins, accordion, tuba and an oboe.
The violins play a 3rd apart with mainly the same rhythm. The accordion plays on the off-beat throughout the piece, this makes the music more lively. An alternating bass line is played by the tuba while the oboe is the solo instrument playing mostly 16th notes.
The form is theme and variation with three sections. The A section is in F minor and the oboe states the main themes. The B section modulates to Ab major (relative major) and the C section is in Ab minor. Overall it’s a silly, jolly piece and is certainly different.
